Neitzel, Ruth (Marriage - 14 Aug. 1948)

A theme of blue and white was carried out in the attractive wedding of Miss Ruth Neitzel and Arvin Podevels, resident of the town of Frankfort, solemnized Saturday afternoon, Aug. 14, in a setting of candlelight and flowers, in St. John’s Lutheran church in the town of Wien, with the Rev. Herold Malotky officiating.

The bride, who is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Neitzel, wore a gown of her own design, of white slipper satin. The elongated tunic had an unusual scroll design at the neckline. The full shirred skirt was caught up at the hemline with pearl clips to reveal tiers of light blue lace ruffles. Long, light blue lace gloves, and a finger tip veil of embroidered net, fastened to a pearlized tiara, completed her ensemble. For jewelry she wore her bridegroom’s gift, a pearl necklace, bracelet, and matching earrings. Her bouquet featured rhubrum lilies and pompons.

Miss Geraldine Haderlein, Milan, who is a student at the University of Wisconsin, was the bride’s only attendant. Her light blue gown was in colonial design, and had a full skirt caught up at intervals to reveal lace ruffles. Her Juliet cap headdress and long gloves were of matching blue lace and she carried rhubrum lilies and carnations. The pearl bracelet she wore was a gift from the bride.

The bridegroom, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Podevels, chose for his attendant, his brother, Gerhardt.

Mrs. Otto Neitzel was organist for the ceremony, and vocal numbers included a selection by the church choir, "God Will Take Care of Us," and a duet, "Take Thou My Hand and Lead Me," sung by Lavonne and Carl Marquardt.

The bride’s mother repeated the chosen color theme, by wearing a dress of aqua blue with white accessories, and the bridegroom’s mother chose a dress of royal blue. Both had shoulder bouquets of pink and white carnations.

The wedding dinner and reception were held at the Neitzel home, decorated with a profusion of garden flowers. The couple is now on a wedding trip through the western part of the United States.
